Having been introduced to Las Rocas with their 2002 vintage, I had the pleasure of enjoying several bottles of that vintage. So I was eager to try the 2004 having somehow missed the 2003 vintage completely!

The wine starts off showing a medium ruby core that fades to a pinkish rim. The nose has light floral aromas that intermix with blackberry fruit. Add hints of smoky, savory meat and by now you are ready for a taste. In the mouth the wine presses the palate with its lean body, dusty/chalky tannins that are a bit astringent along with racy acidity. This is not just a fruit-driven wine! Balanced overall, the wine has a medium finish leaving behind the delicate intensity and simple complexity of the Garnacha varietal that it is made from. Agreeable overall and plenty youthful, you will enjoy this inexpensive Spanish Calatayud wine.
