The 2001 Syrah/Grenache is blended 50/50 of each varietal, all from the Litton Estate Vineyard. Showing plenty of color, the wine has an opaque ruby core that fades to a garnet/ruby rim. The nose has wonderful warm aromas of pipe tobacco and toasty oak along with black plums, perfume, floral and peppery spice. The mouth is treated to a pleasing fleshy consistency with flavors that follow the nose. Drying tannins provide a sound structure. Masculine yet elegant, overall the full body of this wine shows flowing balance and parts with a generous lingering finish.
