Syrah is coming into its own as a serious success story in
California. A perfect example is Red Skye's 2001 Santa
Barbara Syrah. It took a Gold Medal at the San Francisco
International Wine Competition and for good reason. The wine
shows a dark ruby core that fades to a purple rim. The nose
is treated to pronounced aromas of blackberry, plum,
perfume, chocolate and even some meaty salami. The flavors
follow through from the nose and the palate is treated to
light tannins and fresh acidity. The wine parts with a deep
intensity, and a developed complexity that is long and
persistent. |
