A long time favorite producer of mine, Trentadue (32 in
Italian) produces wonderful wines. Their La Storia wine is
nothing short of delicious. The 2002 Meritage is an estate
blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Grabbing your attention at first pour, you'll notice that
the opaque ruby core fades to a shade of purple at the rim.
With increasing anticipation, the nose reveals a myriad of
wonderful aromas. Black cherry, black currant, clove,
cinnamon, mint and a touch of vanilla all provide a
concentrated intensity when smelled. The palate is treated
equally well, the wine's full body shows a rich and mellowed
consistency. Medium grained tannins are a touch powdery and
provide a robust structure. Overall, this wine has a flowing
balance parting with a long warm finish. While still
developing, this rich masculine wine should provide plenty
of enjoyable drinking in the time ahead as well. |
