Starry Night's 2001 Syrah from the Terra Alta Vineyard in
Lodi is a great expression of the region. It shows an opaque
core that fades to a thin pinkish rim. On the nose the
aromas of strawberry, blueberry, and black pepper mix with
light chocolate and a touch of earthiness. In the mouth is
where the wine commands attention. On the palate, the body
has a fleshy even viscous consistency. The ripe fruit
flavors follow the nose while adding soft tannins and some
fresh acidity to all together produce a seductive rich body.
This wine is developing well and the elements balance
harmoniously. A long finish that lingers will add to your
understanding of the wine's developed complexity. Overall
this is a smooth wine with finesse and pure intensity. Approximately 720 cases made. |
