I recently opened a bottle of 2000 Mayo Family Winery
Merlot. This is definitely not your ordinary bottle of
Merlot. Several of my fellow tasters actually thought they
were tasting a Cabernet Sauvignon! The garnet colored wine reminded me of their 1999 release. Aromas of cherries and blackberries were pure and mixed well with the anise, clove and vanilla spices from the 20-month French Oak aging. Rich berry flavors are plentiful, and with ample body, silky integrated tannins, this is one Merlot that is complex, yet smooth and parts the palate with a generous lingering finish. Total production for this gem was 220 cases. There is likely not any of the 2000 vintage available; however, I would strongly encourage you to try their current offering. In addition, I would encourage you to try any wine the Mayo Family Winery produces. |
