Paso D'Oro 2022 Cabernet is the second vintage from the successful launch of winemaker Laura Orozco's Paso project. Appearance shows a medium to dark ruby/purple core fading out to a violet rim.
The nose is treated to blackberries, clove and herbaceous hints of tomato leaf. Mostly fruit driven influence with light touches of smoke and pencil shavings from the barrel along with light cocoa from a couple years in the bottle.
On the palate the wine starts with a soft to silky texture front to middle with middle to finish revealing chalky to drying tannins. The sinewy body offers up a firm structure and a medium dry finish with fresh acidity that keeps a liveliness on the palate. There is a distinct intensity about the wine, yet it delivers a harmonious complexity you're likely to appreciate.
The wine is certainly approachable in age and can be enjoyed now or held a few more years. Overall the wine leaves a good impression and begs to be enjoyed with some friends and great food! |
