I recently had the opportunity to enjoy Ridge's 2001
Jimsomare. While its primary fruit characteristics are still
dominant, its age added some nice complexities. The wine
shows a dark ruby core that fades to a purple rim. The nose
is concentrated with a blend of aromas ranging from black
currant/cassis, cedar, spice and toasted oak to licorice,
clove and even hints of fruitcake and leather. On the
palate the wine is equally pleasing with a full body wrapped
with soft, smooth tannins and supported by refreshing
acidity. The wine shows a flowing balance from beginning to
end and parts with a persistent finish. |
