Sawyer's 1999 Meritage (63% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon,
2% Petit Verdot) is drinking nicely as of this bottle
tasting. The wine shows a dark garnet core that fades to a
brick red rim. Aromas of black cherry and bramble berry mix
well with the hints of chocolate and herbs. The nose is well
developed with hints of cigar box, smoke and spice. In the
mouth, the wine reveals raspberry tartness. Lively acidity
and light tannins provide a medium structure. The wine is
developed and the finish is dry. This was a very good food
wine that we later paired with grilled tenderloin.
