Having recently visited the winery of Freemark Abbey, I
acquired some bottles of their 1993 Napa Valley Merlot. This
wine is at its peak and drinking nicely now. So what are you
waiting for? The wine shows a dark mahogany core that fades to an orange/red rim giving a good indication of its age. The nose is loaded with both primary as well as tertiary aromas. From the fruit there are aromas of dark cherries, plums and even some beets. Bottle age aromas of earthiness and musk with a touch of bacon mix well along with hints of leather and faint cedar. In the mouth the wine shows good liveliness as well. The soft smooth tannins still offer a bit of grip and the flavors follow the nose nicely. Lively acidity adds character to the sinewy body. The wine's mellow consistency offers an open structure that is easy to find your way around. The wine is developed and finishes clean with medium length. A fine Merlot overall, so like I said, what are you waiting for? |
