Sarget de Gruaud~Larose is the second label of Chateau
Gruaud Larose. The fruit that does not make it into the
Chateau's wine will be generally released under this second
label. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%),
Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (7%), Petit Verdot (4%) and
Malbec (2%). The 2003 is medium ruby red in color. The nose has aromas of berries, toast, smoke, earthy clove, bacon and floral. In other words, there is a lot going on in the nose! The wine is tightly structured in the mouth and the berry flavor follows through from the nose. Drying tannins lean toward puckering astringency. With refreshing acidity and a lean body showing a firm consistency, this wine needs a bit of time to breathe when opened - when doing so, you'll find it softens considerably. Pairing it with a beef dish works nicely. |
