Wonderful wines and a beautiful winery have made this
Alexander Valley vintner one of my favorites. A fun drinking
and broadly versatile wine in their portfolio is the Old
Patch Red (OPR). The 2004 release shows a dark ruby core fading slightly to a purple rim. The nose is full of ripe fruit such as blackcurrants and dark berries. With aromas of chocolate and hints of clove, this wine begs a taste. In the mouth, the palate is treated to rich flavors with rounded tannins that roll leisurely across the palate. The rich body maintains good balance with fresh acidity that keeps this youthful wine in line. Rich and smooth overall, the wine has a deep intensity and harmonious complexity.
