Reds from New Zealand bring back fond memories of my recent
trip to the north and south island. Quarry Road is a blend
of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Cabernet Franc
(5%) fruit grown in Te Kauwhata located on the north island
of New Zealand. The wine has a mid-to-dark ruby red core that fades slightly at the rim. The nose is immediately treated to violets from the Cabernet Franc. Aromas of blackberry, blackcurrants and spice and some dusty smoke provide plenty of nosing pleasure. In the mouth, the flavors follow the nose. The wine shows fine light tannins that are slightly puckering along with zesty acidity. A light and lean body comprises the more angular structure. The wine was at its best when paired with spicy pork and vegetables. This is an overall enjoyable and well-blended red from New Zealand. |
