d'Arenberg's The Laughing Magpie has been a favorite of mine
for several years. A blend of 95% Shiraz and 5%Viognier, the
wine offers loads of Australian enjoyment. The 2002 Laughing Magpie dresses lusciously in an opaque/purple core and fades to a rose/ox blood rim. This wine gets interesting immediately upon placing your nose in the glass. An expressive meaty nose offers aromas of blackberry and floral along with bacon fat and salami. Delicious and mouth watering, the aromas follow through on the palate. The full body is well-balanced with dusty tannins and fresh acidity. The wine parts with a lingering laugh knowing you will be tipping the glass for yet more enjoyment. |
