Gundlach Bundschu's 2003 Rhinefarm Vineyard Pinot Noir is a stand out amongst the many California Pinots. The wine shows a light garnet red color, but the real beauty its nose and palate. Aromas of dried flowers, herbs, chocolate, smoky, black tea, plum and rhubarb are enough the keep even the most discerning nose busy. Once tasted, the wine flavors tend to follow the nose. Its medium body and soft consistency shows a flowing balance from start to finish. The tannins are light and soft and there's enough acidity to make it food friendly. Persistent, yet with a defined complexity, this Pinot Noir is smooth and sound!
