Novy Cellars produces Syrah with passion that shows
consistent vintage to vintage. I have been a fan of their
Sonoma County Syrah for the past 2 vintages even though
their single vineyard offerings have captured more fanfare.
The 02 Syrah is close to the 01 which I enjoyed very much. The color is dark ruby with a shade of violet around the edges. Aromas are wonderful and consist of clove, nutmeg and blackberry. The wine has silky tannins and an unctuous consistency in the mouth. A generous finish with lingering prune flavors the wine is smooth and well balanced. We enjoyed this bottle with grilled rib eye steaks with cracked pepper which produced an enjoyable pairing. As with all of Novy wines the production is small so finding this wine might prove difficult. In addition to this label they produce outstanding Pinot Noir under their Siduri (www.siduri.com) label. |
