Ricci Vineyard is a name you may see from time to time on different producers' labels. That is because the Ricci family does what they do best: growing wonderful grapes.

The Benziger 2003 Pinot Noir I tasted is produced with fruit from Ricci Vineyard (Clone 115) located in the Los Carneros. The wine shows a medium ruby core with a rose/orange rim. The nose is treated to intense aromas of black cherry, rhubarb and black tea along with earthy truffles, mushrooms and cinnamon. The wine's full body is balanced with integrated tannins and lively acidity. Ripe fruit and glycerin result in a generous finish. While the wine is enjoyable now, it is still developing. Given a bit more time the result should be an even more pleasing blend of primary as well as aging character.
