Several producers from Argentina find space in my wine
collection. One of them is Ben Marco. Their 2000 V.M.S.
(Vineyard Master Selection) was recently tasted with very
pleasing results. VMS is a blend of Malbec (50%), Cabernet
Sauvignon (20%), Bonarda (15%), Merlot (10%) and Syrah
(5%). The wine shows an opaque mahogany core that fades to an orange red rim. The nose is chocker block full of delightful aromas. Blackberry and plum fruit mingles well with tobacco leaf, leather, cigar box and menthol. In the mouth, the wine shows how huge it is. Aggressive tannins and crisp acidity produce a tight structure. The wine has powerful intensity both on the nose and in the mouth. The intricate complexity shows plenty of strength indicating the wine still has time to be enjoyed. |
