Novy Cellars Sonoma County Syrah has been one of my favorites; it's the first bottle of wine my fiance and I ever enjoyed together a few years ago, when I had just returned from a trek to New Zealand. A full in the mouth California Syrah, this 2001 shows an opaque ruby core that fades to a mahogany/ruby rim. There is plenty going on in the nose. Aromas of sweet perfume, ripe cherry, black currant, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco are all present as the wine breathes. The wine has a full body with dusty tannins showing fine astringency. Warm alcohol and a concentrated intensity send the wine home with a generous finish.
