I tasted this wine at the 2004 Family Winemakers of California, Fourteenth Annual Tasting. Frazier's Lupine Hill is essentially a second label when winemaker John Gibson decides to de-classify a vintage. This was the case with their 2001 Merlot. A wonderfully complex Merlot the nose reveals a spicy, herbaceous and dark berry fruit aroma. The palate is treated to black cherry along with toasty oak influenced spice. With a small production of 401 cases the winery is currently sold out. Look for more Lupine Hill wines whenever John decides the juice is not good enough to bottle under the Frazier label.
