Madroña Vineyards has a wonderful portfolio of varietal wines produced from estate fruit by a conscientious winemaker. Tasting their wines is a pleasure and demonstrates their commitment to fine wines - a result of 30 plus years of grape growing and winemaking experience.

Their 2003 New-World Port is a blend of traditional Portuguese varieties consisting of Touriga, Tinta Cao, Alvarelhao, Bastardo, Sousao, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amareta. The wine shows off its youth with a lovely dark ruby/purple core that fades to a purple rim. Swirling the wine around in your glass will release loads of pleasurable aromas. With pure and distinct intensity, aromas of blackberry, raisin and chocolate layer within notes of tobacco and some nutty vanilla.

In the mouth the wine sports a thick body with an unctuous palate-coating appeal. Concentrated flavors of chocolate covered berries make themselves at home with luscious sweetness resulting in a relaxed sigh of pleasure. The wine shows a flowing harmonious balance from beginning to end. Parting with a long generous warm finish, this port is concentrated and has a powerful intensity that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with decadent chocolates or fine blue cheeses - whichever is your greater pleasure! Overall, it's a rich, sensuous youthfully smooth wine that drinks well now and should provide plenty of enjoyable drinking time ahead.
