Edna Valley's 2002 Syrah is a mix of fruit from cool and
warm regions within California's Central Coast. It begins
with a dark ruby core that fades to a purple rim. The nose
is treated to aromas of blueberries, vanilla and spice
(nutmeg) that are delicate in intensity. However, in the
mouth, the wine's fruit flavors seem to follow cooler
coastal fruit rather than the riper fruit found on the
nose. Those flavors, along with crisp acidity, give the
wine a sour fruit flavor. Fine light tannins add structure
to the stringy lean body. The wine finishes clean and the
flavors lingered briefly. |
