J Lohr's 2002 Paso Robles Los Osos Merlot has a lot to offer anyone who dismisses Merlot, and this bottle is attractively priced as well. The wine shows a deep ruby core that fades to an orange/pinkish rim. The nose is treated to wonderfully rich aromas of blackberry, black plum, raspberry and spice. On the palate the ripe fruit flavors follow through with lively acidity and are properly complemented with soft tannins that are a touch powdery. The wine wraps up softly balanced and tends to part with a nice finish that lingers about while you wait for the next taste.
