Yum in a bottle! Thank goodness it is a 500 ml bottle as
well! Syrah is one of my favorite varietals and when you get
the chance to drink a port production such as Castle's 01
Syrah Port it is indeed a kind and joyous moment. This port pours out of the bottle and could be mistaken for ink. The dark rich color begs the nose for a long deep inhale. Sumptuous aromas of blackberry, blueberry and raisins are concentrated with pure intensity. A topping of vanilla and chocolate sends the taste buds into overdrive. The flavors are persistent with the aromas and the textural aspect of this port is smooth and mellow. Sweetness is ripe but not syrupy and the alcohol at 18% provides a warm balanced finish for an all around agreeable port. We enjoyed this port with a block of Stilton that was at the proper temperature and it was truly a gastronomical moment. Production is very small with only 120 cases produced. Available at the winery or via their web site. |
