Valpolicella located in the Veneto region along with Soave and Bardolino that makes up the regions big 3 is known for producing large quantities of wine at attractive prices. However attractive the price, finding quality wines can sometimes be difficult at best.

Zenato Ripassa carries the DOC classification: Valpolicella Classico Superiore. Boasting the Classico Superiore is more prestigious since the wine has to have an alcoholic strength of at least 12% and be aged for a period of one year. Further, Zenato Ripassa is also a "Ripasso" wine whereby the juice gets the pleasure of spending time with unpressed skins used for Amarone production.

Having enjoyed previous vintages the 01 Ripassa was well made and concentrated. The wine has a deep purple ruby color. Aromas of dark skinned fruit mingle with toast derived sweet smoke and grilled meat. In the mouth the wine has smooth tannins with a supple consistency wrapped in a rich body resulting in a sensuous mouth feel. The flavors are distinct and balanced leaving the wine a complex and generous finish.

We had this bottle with homemade lasagna and it was fantastic!
