I recently tasted the 2004 Rombauer Zinfandel. The wine is produced with fruit sourced from Amador County (52%), El Dorado County (31%) along with Lake County (17%). The wine starts off with a dark ruby core that fades to a purple rim. The nose is treated to aromas of black currant, cassis, clove, spice and some toasted oak for the finishing touches. In the mouth the wine was surprisingly sweet - syrupy sweetness, you might say. The wine was full bodied with fine light tannins and parted with a medium finish that was almost sticky. There was a bit more residual sugar than I would have expected and while the alcohol comes in at 15.5% the wine was not heady. |
