Wonderful wines and a beautiful winery have made this Alexander Valley vintner one of my favorites. A fun drinking and broadly versatile wine in their portfolio is the Old Patch Red (OPR).

The 2004 release shows a dark ruby core fading slightly to a purple rim. The nose is full of ripe fruit such as blackcurrants and dark berries. With aromas of chocolate and hints of clove, this wine begs a taste. In the mouth, the palate is treated to rich flavors with rounded tannins that roll leisurely across the palate. The rich body maintains good balance with fresh acidity that keeps this youthful wine in line. Rich and smooth overall, the wine has a deep intensity and harmonious complexity.

This wine was later served with a gastronomical spread consisting of the following:
  • Thinly sliced filet mignon - with olive oil drizzle and cracked peppercorn
  • Pepper crusted hot salami
  • Due Latte Robiola cheese
  • Cravanzina cheese
  • Pecorino cheese
  • Italian Mountain Gorgonzola cheese
  • Marcona almonds
  • Dried bing cherries
  • Kalamata olives
  • Sicilian olives
  • Italian bread
I can safely say, not a drop of wine was left nor a morsel of food. You can translate that to mean everyone simple loved the wine with a variety of flavorful foods!
