A sleek sexy bottle dressed in an attractive label is never a reliable indication that the wine inside matches its exterior zest. However, with the 2001 Swanson Alexis the dress matches the body exceedingly well.

On first look, the wine shows a dark ruby core that fades to a purple/ruby rim. The nose is treated graciously to aromas of ripe berries, cinnamon and clove with hints of smoky bacon. Rich flavors of ripe cherries with a hint of currants follow the nose of this full bodied wine. Smooth round tannins contribute a fine astringency and are integrated so well, they roll across the palate. The wine has a persistent intensity and offers diverse complexity. This is a red with overall finesse and is distinguished within its class.

The 2001 Alexis was later paired with fine tenderloin. A mouth full of succulent beef getting splashed with Alexis wraps the palate in rich flavors along with a fully dressed body. The acids display grace as red meets red. This is the epitome of red wine and red meat!
