Domaine Carneros's flagship Pinot Noir is "The Famous Gate." The name signifies the entrance to the renowned wine regions of Napa and Sonoma Valley.

We recently opened their 2000 vintage. The wine shows some age with a light garnet core and fades to a brownish/orange rim. On the nose are delicate aromas of cherry, tea and spice. In the mouth, the cherry flavor melds within a light and lean body, smooth soft tannins and subtle refreshing acidity. This Pinot is happily balanced, has a medium finish with a somewhat delicate intensity. Simple yet developed, this is overall a good Pinot Noir, but one that is starting to fade. Drink now.
