James and Marjorie Irvine produce Merlot that will satisfy plenty of discriminating palates. Their 2000 Eden Crest Merlot is a blend of fruit: 54% Barossa Valley and 46% Eden Valley.

The 2000 vintage is showing slight touches of age. It has a medium mahogany core that fades to a rose/orange rim. The nose is delightfully treated to distinct and concentrated aromas of black plums, black olives, leather, sweet tobacco and hints of cedar and cashews. In the mouth the wine delivers delicious rich, ripe plum flavors within a rich body that is harmoniously balanced. Velvety tannins yield a fine astringency that culminates in a lingering finish with good length. The 2000 release has developed nicely into a sensuous, smooth and beautiful Merlot.
