Having recently enjoyed Ledgewood's 2003 Syrah I was excited
to taste the 2004. While I found a world of difference
between the two vintages, I very much enjoyed both. The 2004
is reminiscent of the old world Syrah. The wine shows a dark
ruby core that fades to a purple hue. The nose is where the
wine captivates. Aromas of anise, blackberry and black
currant mingle with spice, meatiness and menthol. Add some
barnyard aromas and this wine has a nose you can love! In
the mouth, the currant and berry flavors sit well within a
full body. Balanced and integrated tannins make for a robust
structure. The generous finish shows off its youth. Distinct
intensity in the nose and intricate complexity leads to a
very good wine overall. |
